@jabel they’ll flower on growth at least a year old and tend to be very productive for fruit. They also self-seed. Great for birds. If you are thinking about human consumption, maybe prune short and perhaps let a new stem grow each year and prune out older ones (I’m guessing as I use mine as a screen above the 6-foot fence line). They will tend to regrow at the prune cut too. Lots of options lol


@jabel they’re very easy to grow though ours go dormant during the hottest summer months. If wanting them tall, keep 4-5 sturdy stems and prune away new ground level shoots. Prune top heavy branches if they bend down to eye level. Try to keep the stems & branches from crossing. As they grow taller, they’ll break each other from wind and weight of the foliage.
